Mamata Banerjee’s allegation on EC: Names are being removed from voter list at the behest of political party

New Delhi:A new controversy has arisen in the politics of West Bengal regarding the voter list. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed apprehension that names of about 1.20 crore people in the state may be removed from the voter list during the process of Special Summary Revision (SIR). The final voter list is to be released on February 28, so this issue has increased the political temperature.

After inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of various projects in her constituency of Bhawanipur, Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee made serious allegations against the Election Commission. He claimed that names of legitimate voters were being removed in the name of logical inconsistencies and there could be political pressure behind it.

Great apprehension expressed regarding SIR

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that due to SIR, the voting rights of a large number of people has been affected. He said, ‘Many have lost their voting rights due to SIR. After the first phase, names of 58 lakh voters were removed. In the name of logical discrepancies, the names of at least 20 lakh more valid voters have been removed from the voter list till February 14. About 1 crore 20 lakh names can be removed.

Serious allegations against the Election Commission

Mamata Banerjee accused the Election Commission of taking action at the behest of a political party. He said that removing names of legitimate voters is against the democratic process.

She clearly said, ‘I will continue to raise my voice against the deletion of even a single valid voter’s name. I myself fought against the Election Commission in the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister alleged that despite the order of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission is issuing new instructions through WhatsApp and is not changing its procedure.

He made this statement after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of several development projects including Jain Manastambh and Sant Kutiya Gurudwara Gate in his constituency Bhawanipur.

Mamta Banerjee said, ‘In Bengal we respect all languages, religions, customs, culture and food. I like Roti, Chapati, Litti of Bihar, Dhokla and other dishes of Gujarat.
