Mamta again got a big blow, Ritabrata Banerjee will remain the leader of opposition
Currently there is BJP government in West Bengal. TMC has lost power. The party which is in power in the Assembly is headed by the Chief Minister but the opposition has a head who is called the Leader of the Opposition and a big controversy has arisen regarding this post. The speaker of the assembly is Rathindranath Bose. Now the responsibility of Leader of Opposition was with Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, but Speaker Rathindranath Bose took a big decision and accepted Ritabraj Banerjee as Leader of Opposition and recognized him for this post. Ritabraj Banerjee is a leader of TMC but after the defeat in the elections, he rebelled against his party.
Why is TMC worried?
TMC does not accept this decision. The party says that the Leader of the Opposition cannot be appointed as Speaker on his own will. For this, it is important to see how many MLAs a party has in the Assembly, which party is the opposition and what is the political reality. TMC alleges that by giving this important post to a rebel leader, the Speaker has broken the old traditions of the Assembly and disturbed the political balance. TMC has gone to the High Court regarding this. At present, Ritabrata Banerjee will remain on the post of Leader of Opposition but the matter does not end here, the court has fixed June 16 as the date of next hearing. On that day, arguments from both sides will be heard and after that a major decision can be taken.
