Mamta Didi wrote a letter to PM Modi, made this appeal on the decision to increase the price of medicines.

Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed concern over the increase in prices of essential medicines. Let us tell you that Mamata Banerjee has written a two-page letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern about this. In his letter he has discussed about the revision of prices of essential medicines by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

Mamta Banerjee has said in the letter that the concerned ministry should be instructed to immediately reconsider this decision. Banerjee has said in a two-page letter to the Prime Minister that the welfare of the citizens is of supreme importance. I urge you to issue instructions to the concerned Ministry to immediately reconsider the decision of price increase in the larger interest of health and well-being of the common people.

Perhaps, our aim should be to maintain a balanced approach that respects both commercial feasibility and the right of citizens to affordable healthcare. The welfare of citizens is paramount, and it is important that all stakeholders create consistent policies to reflect this commitment.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in her two-page letter further said that I am sure you will agree that the increase on unapproved medicines will be a blow to the efforts of the states and the entire country to provide affordable health care. Can create a big challenge. This may hinder access to medically essential services, impacting public health outcomes and increasing the burden on health systems.

For your information, let us tell you that NPPA had recently approved a 50 percent increase in the price range of 11 prescribed formulations of eight medicines. Most of these medicines are affordable and are commonly used in the treatment of asthma, glaucoma, thalassemia, TB and mental health disorders.
