The war of words in the politics of West Bengal has now reached its peak. Addressing a huge public meeting in Uttarpara, Hooghly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fiercely attacked the Central Government and especially Home Minister Amit Shah. Mamta Banerjee looked very angry when she mentioned an old controversial statement of Amit Shah. He not only criticized the policies of the Centre, but also threatened to drag the Home Minister to court.
Sharp reaction to Amit Shah’s statement Mamata Banerjee expressed strong objection to Amit Shah’s statement in which he had allegedly talked about “making goons straight by hanging them upside down”. Didi said that it does not suit a person holding the post of Home Minister of the country to use such violent language. He called it against the dignity of a constitutional post. Mamata bluntly said that talking about violence is a crime in itself and her party (TMC) will challenge the matter in court.
Election Commission also taken under siege During the rally, not only BJP leaders but also the Election Commission were targeted by Mamata Banerjee. The Chief Minister raised serious questions on the impartiality of the Commission and alleged that his complaints were being deliberately ignored. She said, “I have been saying again and again that the BJP is spreading violence in Bengal by bringing in outsiders, but the Commission is sitting idly by.” Mamta alleged that the central institutions are working unilaterally.
PM Modi and Jadavpur University issue Mamata Banerjee did not even spare Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He termed the remarks made by the PM on the students of Jadavpur University as derogatory. The Chief Minister said that in a democracy, it is the students’ right to raise their voice, but it is wrong to call them ‘anarchists’. He said that the central government is trying to suppress the voice of the youth.
Counterattack on Manipur and women’s safety Countering the allegations of anarchy, Mamata Banerjee raised the issue of Manipur violence. He said that if the Center wants to see real anarchy, then they should see the situation in Manipur where peace has not been restored for months. Furthermore, in response to questions raised on women’s safety in West Bengal, he advised the Prime Minister to look at the crime records of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. He said that before defaming Bengal, see the situation of BJP ruled states.
