Man Dies During Mumbai Music Concert, Woman In Hospital; Did They Consume Excessive Alcohol?
Mumbai: A man died and a woman had to be hospitalised after falling ill at a music concert late on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Mahim resident Vrishabh Gangurde. The 28-year-old was attending the ‘Klangkuenstler All Night Long’ OUTWORLD Mumbai music event at the NSCI Dome Worli with his female friend. Klangkuenstler is an internationally acclaimed German DJ and producer.
Though the cause of death is yet to be ascertained, it has come to light that Gangurde and his friend had consumed alcohol in excessive quantity.
They started feeling unwell at the packed venue, and were rushed to the hospital.
Gangurde was brought dead to Breach Candy Hospital, a police statement said.
The woman was shifted to Jaslok Hospital and is in a stable condition. She told police that she had consumed alcohol and energy drinks.
Police are examining CCTV cameras at the venue and other devices as they investigate Gangurde’s death.
The post-mortem and forensic reports are awaited, but preliminary investigation suggests heart attack could be a likely cause of death.
The police have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR), and are questioning at least eight individuals, including the organisers.
The bank accounts of the organisers are reportedly being looked into to check if illegal black-marketing of tickets took place, reported NDTV.
Sources said local police had initially refused permission for the Worli concert over security and crowd management concerns, citing the Goregaon tragedy in April when two MBA students had died due to a drug overdose at a concert at the NESCO centre.
However, the concert was given a go-ahead by senior officials.
