Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile successfully flight-tested

Mumbai, 12 January 2026: The third generation Fire and Forget Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) was successfully flight-tested by DRDO’s Defense Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad, against a moving target at KK Range at Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra.

The indigenously developed MPATGM comprises of state-of-the-art indigenous technologies like Imaging Infrared (IIR) Homing Seeker, All Electric Control Actuation System, Fire Control System, Tandem Warhead, Propulsion System and High Performance Sighting System, which are developed by DRDO’s sister laboratories like Research Center Building, Hyderabad, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh, High It has been developed by Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune and Instruments Research and Development Establishment, Dehradun. This thermal target system was developed by Jodhpur based Defense Laboratory to simulate the target tank.

IIR Sikar is capable of day and night combat operations. This warhead is capable of defeating modern main battle tanks. Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited are the Development-cum-Production Partners (DcPP) for this weapon system. this missileCan be launched from a tripod or military vehicle launcher.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, DcPP partners and industry for the successful test. He called it an important step towards self-reliant India. Congratulating the team, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. Sameer V. Kamat said that the test target was successfully conducted, paving the way for the induction of the weapon system into the Indian Army.
