Man United fans make their feelings clear by singing Alejandro Garnacho's name throughout their Europa League win over Rangers amid Chelsea interest

Manchester United supporters made their feelings clear on Alejandro Garnacho’s future at the club by chanting his name during their Europa League clash with Rangers.

The Argentine winger was handed a start by head coach Ruben Amorim despite speculation over his Old Trafford future.

Mail Sport reported earlier on Thursday that Chelsea are preparing a formal offer for Garnacho, after making opening enquiries last week.

Man United are looking for £65million for the 20-year-old, who would be considered as pure profit PSR guidelines due to qualifying as a homegrown player, potentially offering the Red Devils greater room for manoeuvre.

Garnacho’s agents Carlos Cambeiro and Quique de Lucas were at Chelsea’s game with Wolves on Monday and are open to their client making the move to London.

Man United supporters, however, signalled their support for Garnacho by chanting his name during their dramatic 2-1 win over Rangers on Thursday night.

Garnacho, who is contracted until 2028, had been one of Man United’s biggest threats early on in the match against the Scottish Premiership opponents.

Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand noted the support for Garnacho from the crowd, but suggested Amorim’s 3-4-3 system may not work for the winger.

‘I think they [the supporters] were making themselves very clear, Ferdinand said on TNT Sports. ‘They were singing his name and that was the sign of how they feel about him.

‘They love him here, they talk about him, they sing about him often.

‘One thing he does give you, he gets you on the edge of your seat, he’s exciting, he’s always very direct, but I think the system will be the one thing that goes against him.

‘Amorim doesn’t play with out and out wide wingers. He wants his wingers to play inside the pitch, to start inside the pitch.

‘That’s not natural for Garnacho. I don’t think you see the best of him in those inside areas. Starting wide, coming in, drifting.

‘That will be one of the main factors that goes against him staying at this football club and why they may listen to offers for him. But there’s no doubt this kid has huge talent and huge ability.’

Mail Sport’s Man United Confidential revealed this month that the club were open to selling Kobbie Mainoo and Garnacho owing to the need to generate revenue for PSR rules.

Garnacho has had limited minutes for Man United since being left out by Amorim for the Manchester derby last month.

Ferdinand suggested Garnacho is unlikely to have pushed for a move away from Old Trafford, claiming the winger may have started to consider a departure as a result of the club potentially being open to a sale.

‘I don’t think he’ll be the one initiating this move,’ Ferdinand said. I don’t think he’ll be the one saying he wants to leave.

‘I think he’s the one going, “What, you want me to go? You’re listening to offers. OK, if that’s the case I’ll start talking as well.” I think that’s the situation.’

Speaking after Man United’s win over Rangers, Amorim admitted ‘anything can happen’ when quizzed over Garnacho’s future at the club.

‘I don’t know what will happen, let’s focus on the team and the players that we have here,’ Amorim said.

Chelsea could have a free run at Garnacho should they make an offer, after Napoli moved on from talks.

Napoli have made offers varying from £45m to £50m but have now opened parallel negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Karim Adeyemi.
