Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes wins FWA Player of the year award
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was announced as the winner of the Football Writers Association’s men’s footballer of the year award.
The Portuguese maestro played a crucial role in the Red Devils securing qualification to the UEFA Champions League despite sacking Ruben Amorim midway through the season.
Despite finishing another campaign without a trophy, the FA Cup winner from two seasons ago has found a new lease of life under interim manager Michael Carrick.
The 31-year-old has contributed eight goals and 20 assists in the Premier League this season and is within the cusp of breaking the season-record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.
Fernandes is the first player from United to win the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
