Manager Wayne Rooney set to star in a new documentary series about his time in charge of Plymouth Argyle… and filming is already underway

Manchester City did it. Arsenal did it. So did Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Leeds United and, of course, Wrexham.

Now Plymouth Argyle are the latest football club to allow TV camera’s behind-the-scenes access to create a documentary.

Ex-England captain Rooney has been in charge of Plymouth since May and has so far overseen 17 games, resulting in five wins, four draws and eight defeats.

Plymouth currently sit 18th in the Championship table, just one point ahead of the relegation zone.

The Devon side’s quest to stay up with Rooney at the helm is seemingly going to be the focus of football’s latest documentary and, according to The Sun, filming is already underway.

Rooney has been the subject of a documentary before.

In 2015, Rooney gave a camera crew access to his family home to create ‘Rooney: The Man Behind the Goals’.

Rooney’s new documentary is being filmed while his wife Coleen is currently in Australia taking part in the ITV show ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’

Plymouth do not have another fixture until November 22 due to the international break.

Their last game was a 1-1 draw away at Derby County, one of Rooney’s former clubs.

Speaking after that game, Rooney told BBC Sport: ‘It was strange going into the away dugout.

‘I’m very thankful to the fans for giving me a good reception getting off the bus and at the end of the game.

‘I’ve had some great memories here at the football club during a very difficult period in the club’s history.

‘I’m sure the fans knew that in the time I was here as manager I did everything I could to try and keep the club sustained.

‘I know there’s a mutual respect between myself and the fans and I wish the club all the best moving forward.’

Rooney was in charge of Derby from November 2020 until June 2022.

Derby narrowly avoided relegation in his first season but went down at the end of the following campaign.

Rooney then had a 53-game stint as D.C. United’s manager in the USA, before a much shorter spell as Birmingham boss at the end of 2023.
