Young bowler Manav Suthar made his very first international Test match memorable and gave a performance which every bowler aspires to. In the test match being played against Afghanistan, Manav bowled lethally and took 6 wickets in his name and made his place in the record book. With this performance, he has joined the list of select bowlers for India who have taken five or more wickets on Test debut.
Afghanistan’s innings ended at 152 runs.
In response to the huge target of 564 runs, Afghanistan’s batting completely faltered. The batsmen of the visiting team could not stand against the Indian bowlers and the entire team was reduced to just 152 runs. Rahmat Shah scored the highest score of 60 runs for Afghanistan. Facing 135 balls, he hit 9 fours and one six, but he did not get much support from the other end.
Manav Suthar took 6 wickets
In this match, Manav Suthar emerged as the biggest star of the Indian bowling attack. He took 6 wickets for just 33 runs in 22 overs, which included 10 maiden overs. By taking a wicket in his very first over, Manav had indicated that he was going to do something special.
He sent Abdul Malik, Rehmanullah Gurbaz, Afsar Zazai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mohammad Salim Saifi and Rahmat Shah to the pavilion. His precise line-length and ability to apply constant pressure left the Afghan batsmen completely helpless.
Manav included in special list
In Test cricket, the list of bowlers who have taken five or more wickets in their debut match for India is very short. This list was started by Mohammad Nisar in 1932 against England. Later bowlers like Waman Kumar, Abid Ali, Dilip Joshi, Narendra Hirwani, Amit Mishra, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami and Axar Patel achieved this feat. Now Manav Suthar has also become a part of this prestigious list. He has also become the seventh spinner to take five wickets in the debut test for India.
