Man City icon Shaun Wright-Phillips hopes for a ‘quadruple’ in the 2024/25 season

New Delhi: The defending Premier League champions Manchester City have been on a rampage in recent years and have won every major trophy there is to win in club football. Last year, they were once again crowned the champions of England, and achieved an unprecedented feat while doing so. They became the first team to win the Premier League title four times in a row.

To celebrate their achievement, the club decided to tour India’s capital, New Delhi and showcase their trophies to the club’s fanbase in the country. Presented by Etihad Airways, Manchester City displayed their Premier League title, the Club World Cup trophy and the FA Community Shield to the fans. Joining the fans at the Live Screening event at Vegas Mall in Dwarka, New Delhi was Manchester City legend Shaun Wright Phillips.

This was the former winger’s third visit to the country but this was his first time visiting the capital. Our correspondents from News9 got this amazing opportunity to interview the former England International and know his thoughts about how he feels visiting the city, what Manchester City can achieve this season and what he feels the outcome of the Manchester City vs Arsenal will be.

Sharing his thoughts on his visit to New Delhi, Wright Phillips exclaimed how lovely it feels to be back in India and how much he’s loving life in Delhi. He loves the food, the people and everything about the city. He says how much he loves coming to India stating that everytime he says the trip can’t get better but is proven wrong on every trip back to the country.

Talking about Manchester City’s 2024/25 season, the club sold Julian Alvarez in the summer and young prospect Oscar Bobb is out through injury which leaves the goalscoring burden solely on Erling Haaland. Wright-Phillips was asked who does he think will be able to take on the goalscoring responsibilities if Haaland was unavailable and without any doubt he said it’ll be the club’s own, Phil Foden.

He praised Foden for doing the same last season and how he was crucial to the club’s success and also praised the club for having players that are capable to step up whenever required whether it be suspension or injury. He believes that Foden has it in him to carry the team along with manager Pep Guardiola, who has shown that he can play with a false nine system before.

The player was also questioned about what he thinks the club can achieve this season. Manchester City have already added a treble to their list of achievements, but when asked if he thinks the club can go a step further and achieve a quadruple this year, he responded like a true Manchester City fan. Speaking as a fan of the club, he said that yes the club can achieve the quadruple this season but realistically speaking, he mentioned while amazing, it’ll be a tough task for them because of the amount of games and the level of their competition.

Lastly, when asked about his thoughts about the Manchester City vs Arsenal game, he credited how good Arsenal were as a team but gave the edge to Manchester City, predicting that the club would come away with a 2-1 win. The game at the Etihad saw a lot of twists and turns where 10-man Arsenal seemed to be heading to a shocking win over the hosts but John Stones denied them right at the death to ensure both teams took home a point each.
