Mandeep Jangra wins WBA Super Featherweight world title
Mandeep Jangra, a professional Indian boxer, clinched the World Boxing Federation’s super featherweight world title in the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea.
Mandeep, who trains under former Olympic silver medallist Roy Jones Jr, bested Britain’s Conor McIntosh to win the title.
The 31-year-old has been in phenomenal form. He lost only one bout out of 12 fights in his professional career so far, with seven being knockout victories.
A former amateur boxer, Mandeep won the silver medal at the 2013 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in the welterweight category. He also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2024 in the same category. In 2025, he was bestowed with the Arjuna Award.
In the about against Conor, the Indian boxer landed his powerful punches from the outset maintaining his upper hand in the 10 rounds. The British boxer struggled for pace.
After winning the WBA super featherweight crown, Jangra, in a press release, said, “This is one of the biggest victories of my career.” “I have worked hard for years to achieve this. It is a matter of pride for me that I could bring glory to the country.”
