Mani Shankar Aiyar’s controversial statement again, Hindus and Sikhs also have two wives, said this big thing on population and marriages

News India Live, Digital Desk: Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, famous for his outspoken and often controversial statements, has once again made a claim which has brought the country’s politics to a boil. Speaking on the issues of polygamy and population during an event in Rajasthan, Aiyar said that the practice of having two wives is quite high not only in a particular community but also in the Hindu and Sikh communities. Aiyar’s claim: “The figures say something else.” Addressing a gathering, Mani Shankar Aiyar said that the perception has been wrongly spread in the society that polygamy is limited only to Muslims. He claimed that if we look at historical and social data, many people following Hindu and Sikh religions also have two or more wives. He argued that this issue should be looked at from a social perspective instead of giving it a communal colour. BJP targeted: “Appeasement politics of Congress”. After this statement of Aiyar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Congress. BJP spokespersons say that it is Mani Shankar Aiyar’s old habit of making such absurd statements to humiliate the majority society. BJP called it a part of Congress’s ‘appeasement politics’ and demanded an explanation from Rahul Gandhi. War broke out on social media. As soon as the video of Aiyar’s statement went viral, a debate broke out on social media. Many users called it beyond facts, while some people are linking it to personal laws and social realities. Many organizations have demanded an apology from Aiyar, accusing him of hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs and Hindus. This is not the first time that Mani Shankar Aiyar has created problems for his own party. Even before this, he had made such comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other sensitive issues, due to which Congress had to come on the backfoot on election fronts. Political analysts are considering this statement as very important in the post-election atmosphere in Rajasthan.
