Latest News :- The Virudhunagar Lok Sabha MP has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain the reasons behind the recent price hike announced by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPBA). Manikam Tagore has written a letter. Manickam Tagore has published a copy of the letter written by him on his X page. In a letter dated October 25, the National Drug Pricing Authority has registered its concern over the decision to increase the maximum price of eight widely used drugs by 50 per cent. In the letter, Manikam Thakur said, last month the National Drug Pricing Authority had approved a 50 per cent increase in the maximum price of eleven listed formulations of eight drugs.
Most of these drugs are inexpensive and can be used primarily for emergency treatment in the country's public health programs. I can understand that the government has cited extraordinary circumstances and concern for public welfare as the reason for this price increase. However I believe it is also necessary to clarify the reasoning behind this highly important conclusion. He said this.
He further said in his letter, “This price increase affects the essential medicine needs of millions of people. Explaining about the price hike notification, NPPA said that the authority had received applications from drug manufacturers for price adjustment citing increase in cost of active pharmaceutical ingredients, increase in production cost, change in transfer price, etc.
A sudden increase in the price of medicines can put additional burden on users and compromise their health. He said. And an independent review committee should be formed to study the real impact of these price increases on patients and doctors. He also recommended that the committee may formulate pricing policies in future.
