Manish Sisodia attacks LG and Prime Minister Modi, says BJP is trying to kill democracy

New Delhi: Manish Sisodia alleged that BJP is trying to kill democracy by electing Standing Committee members late at night despite the postponement of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) meeting. He said that on the instructions of Prime Minister Modi, BJP is trying to destroy democracy in MCD.

Sisodia's comment came after the order of Delhi LG VK Saxena, in which it was directed to complete the election of the last member of the MCD Standing Committee by 10 pm. However, despite the order, elections could not be held for the sixth member in MCD. Sisodia alleged that BJP was already aware of the LG's directive and as a strategy, it kept its councilors present in the House, while Aam Aadmi Party and Congress members were absent. He criticized this sudden instruction and said that Mayor Shelley Oberoi had adjourned the proceedings of the House till October 5.

Sisodia said that the Mayor had already adjourned the proceedings of the House till October 5, but at 8:30 pm the LG sent a letter from America to the MCD Commissioner directing him to complete the elections by 10 pm. Meanwhile, the LG directed MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar to ensure the election of the 18th member by 10 pm and also said that in the absence of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor or the senior most councilor should preside over the meeting.

Why is BJP avoiding Manohar Lal Khattar and stopping him from attending PM Modi's rallies?

BJP also counterattacked

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are killing democracy. Despite having majority they are not allowing MCD elections to be held. He alleged that a Dalit mayor is to be elected this year and AAP is trying to snatch away the rights of Dalits. BJP raised the question why Aam Aadmi Party is running away from the elections and said that they do not have confidence in their councilors.

Union Minister Harsh Malhotra also alleged that the Mayor himself has murdered democracy by stopping the elections. He said that Manish Sisodia is right in saying that democracy is being murdered, but he is not saying that the Mayor has stopped it. MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi, who came to the House at 2:25 pm, adjourned the meeting thrice. Citing the insult of the councilors and lack of cooperation from the officials, he adjourned the session till October 5.

Toll Tax: Traveling on Yamuna Expressway has become expensive from October 1, now this much toll tax will have to be paid.

Before adjourning the meeting, Mayor Oberoi said that the councilors have been insulted and councilors are not treated like this in any municipality anywhere in the country. AAP councilors protested outside the House, accusing the BJP and the Municipal Commissioner of working under pressure. At the same time, BJP councilors were present in the House on time and took part in the proceedings.

Mathematics of MCD Standing Committee

Of the 18 seats of the MCD Standing Committee, 17 have already been filled, of which 8 are from Aam Aadmi Party and 9 from BJP. The formation of the Standing Committee is important because it holds the authority to take major financial decisions. MCD Secretary Shiv Prasad KV defended the ban on mobile phones in the voting process, saying it was necessary to maintain confidentiality, but phones would be allowed after the voting process is completed.
