Big action before LPL 2026: Former India Under-19 star Manjot Kalra arrested on bribery charges
Cricket News: Just before the start of Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026, a big news related to Indian cricket has come out. Manjot Kalra, a member of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team, has been arrested by Sri Lanka’s Sports Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit for allegedly trying to bribe a player. After his arrest he was produced before the local magistrate.

Was the hero of the 2018 Under-19 World Cup final
27-year-old Manjot Kalra played an important role in India winning the title by playing a brilliant inning of 101 not out against Australia in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup final. At that time the team was captained by Prithvi Shaw, while Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi were also part of the same team.
Accused of offering money to LPL player
According to Sri Lankan investigating agencies, Kalra is accused of allegedly offering money to a player participating in the Lanka Premier League. It is being told that the player concerned complained to the authorities about 10 days after the incident, after which the investigation started and Kalra was taken into custody on Friday.

The name is associated with Jaffna Kings
After staying away from cricket, Manjot Kalra entered sports business. This year he joined the LPL franchise Jaffna Kings as a co-owner and investor. Allegations have also surfaced against a player associated with this franchise.
Three players filed a complaint
According to the investigating agencies, Sri Lankan cricketers Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Avishka Fernando and Dunith Velalej had filed a complaint in this case. All three players are part of the Jaffna Kings team in the current season. After receiving the complaint, the Special Investigation Unit intensified the investigation into the case and arrested Kalra.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued a statement on the matter saying that the board is aware of the development and will provide full support to the investigating agency if it requires any assistance. The board also clarified that this matter will not have any impact on the organization of the tournament and LPL 2026 will continue as scheduled. The investigation into the allegations against Manjot Kalra is still going on. At present the investigating agencies are investigating all the facts and evidence related to the case. The final status of the allegations will be clear only after the court and the investigation are completed.
