Mann government’s big decision: Scheme for acid attack victims gender-neutral, monthly assistance increased to ₹ 10,000
Punjab News: Taking an important step aimed at ensuring financial security and social respect for acid attack victims, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken a major decision. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the scheme running for acid attack victims during the last year has been made gender-neutral.
Relief increased for acid attack victims
Dr. Baljeet Kaur said, “The scheme running for acid attack victims over the last year has been made gender-neutral. The scheme was earlier limited to only women, but now male and transgender victims will also be able to avail its benefits. Additionally, the monthly financial assistance under the scheme has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, which will prove to be extremely important for the survival and rehabilitation of the victims.”
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment towards the victims of violence, the Minister said that this initiative is not limited to mere economic assistance, but is a strong effort to restore respect and confidence. Dr. Baljeet Kaur said, “The Punjab government stands with every person who has been a victim of any form of violence. This decision is not just about financial assistance, but is a major step towards restoring the dignity, self-respect and confidence of the victims.”
He further said, “The Punjab Government is fully committed to the protection of human rights and the welfare of every section of the society. Our aim is to create a society where every victim can live a life with equality, security and dignity.”
Deep physical, mental effects of acid attacks
Highlighting the serious impact of such crimes, the Minister said, “Acid attacks not only cause physical wounds but also leave deep emotional and mental anguish. For people going through such trauma, it is not just financial help but the reassurance that they are not alone. The Punjab government stands firmly with them, salutes their courage and is committed to filling their lives with dignity, hope and confidence again.”
