The star Indian shooter revealed some lapses on his part while filing nominations for the highest sporting honor and requested everyone not to speculate on the matter.
Bhakar, 22, created history at the Paris Olympics 2024 when she became the first Indian since independence to win two medals at the Summer Olympics. He teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to win another bronze medal in the mixed 10 meter air pistol team event.
However, his two Olympic medals were not enough to get him a nomination for the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award this year. The Sports Ministry did not include his name in the nomination list and claimed that the shooter had not applied.
Manu Bhaker said, “With regard to the ongoing issue of my nomination for the most prestigious Khel Ratna award – I would like to say that my role as an athlete is to play and perform for my country.” “Awards and recognition motivate me, but are not my goal. I believe there may have been some mistake on my part while filing the nomination, which is being rectified.
“Irrespective of the award, I will remain motivated to win more medals for my country. Everyone is requested to please not speculate on this matter.”
