Marco Rubio meets Indian Foreign Secretary Misri at White House, hints at visiting India
Washington, April 10. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may visit India next month. This indication came when he had a positive meeting with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the White House. In this meeting, there was mention of furthering cooperation between the two countries in areas like defence, trade and important technologies. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore gave this information through social media platform ‘X’ post. He said that the main focus of the talks was to strengthen bilateral relations.
Especially important issues like trade, critical minerals, defense cooperation and ‘Quad’ were discussed. “Secretary Rubio is excited to visit India next month,” he said. This meeting with Rubio was the most important in Vikram Misri’s visit to Washington. This also gave a glimpse of the continuously strengthening relationship of strategic partnership between India and America. During this time, America’s Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau also met Vikram Misri.
According to US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the two sides reaffirmed the strong India-US partnership and discussed global and regional issues, including the Persian Gulf. Apart from this, Vikram Misri also talked to Alison Hooker, Under Secretary for Political Affairs. During this, the progress of the bilateral agenda was reviewed after the Foreign Office Consultative Meeting held in December last year. Economic and technical cooperation was also an important part of this visit.
Vikram Misri met Jacob Helberg, Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, in which it was agreed to enhance cooperation in areas like AI, Critical Minerals and ‘Pax Silica’. During his visit, Vikram Misri also interacted with think tanks and strategic experts from Washington. In these discussions, the future of India-US relations, global challenges and changing geopolitical situations were discussed in detail.
