Maruti Suzuki and Vitara: India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki will introduce its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) Maruti Suzuki E Vitara at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo on January 17, 2025. The company released the first teaser of its electric SUV today.
Highlights of e Vitara
Based on Heartect-e platform: The e Vitara is built on the Heartect-e platform specifically designed for battery electric vehicles.
Production in Gujarat:
It will be manufactured at Maruti's Gujarat plant, and production will begin in March 2025.
Global Exports:
The e Vitara will not only be sold in the Indian market, but will also be exported to Europe, Japan and other international markets.
About 50% of the production has been reserved for export.
Design and Development
The design of the e Vitara is based on the eVX concept model, which was first showcased at the Auto Expo in January 2023 and later at the Japan Mobility Show 2023.
It will also be made for Toyota under the global alliance of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

While the specifications of the Indian-spec E Vitara are not known yet, information about the European version is available:

- 61kWh (2WD & 4WD)
Motor and Power Output:
- 49kWh/2WD – 106kW/189Nm
- 61kWh/2WD – 128kW/189Nm
- 61kWh/4WD – 135kW/300Nm
Range:
The model with 61kWh battery is expected to have a range of more than 500 km.

Competition and Expected Price in India (Maruti Suzuki e Vitara)
Prices for the e Vitara are likely to start around ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki E Vitara is a new beginning for the Indian automobile industry. Its local manufacturing, export plans and affordable pricing will make it a strong contender in the EV segment.
