Jon Bernthal is set to return as Frank Castle in a new Marvel TV special titled The Punisher: One Last Kill which will premiere on Disney+ on May 12.
The release will coincide with the finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 where Bernthal is also expected to appear as the Punisher.
Marvel confirmed the project on social media along with a first-look poster.
The special is described as a standalone story similar in format to previous Marvel presentations like Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
Bernthal has co-written the project with director Reinaldo Marcus Green who is also helming the special.
The actor first took on the role of Frank Castle in 2016 during Season 2 of Daredevil.
The series also sees the return of several familiar characters from the earlier Netflix run.
The upcoming Punisher special marks another step in Marvel’s effort to bring its street-level characters into its current streaming lineup.
Bernthal’s return is already drawing attention from longtime fans of the franchise.
