Boxing star Mary Kom has opened up about her divorce with husband Onler. Mary recently chose to spill the beans as she felt that the “slander had gone too far.” Mary opened up about parting ways with her ex-husband after two decades of being married. She said that the stories floating around on the internet have nothing to do with the reality of what she went through.

Mary said that everything was fine between the two until she got injured before the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Kom reveals that she was bedridden, and it was during this period that she realised the hard price she had to pay for letting Onler handle all her finances. She added that when she understood what her husband had done behind her back, she wanted a quiet separation.

Why she chose to speak up

But social media came up with stories and theories, which for her have now become unbearable. “I informed my family and his family that it could not continue, and they understood. I was hoping that it would stay private, but then a concerted attempt has been made to slander me for the last year. I thought I would not respond, but then my silence was being misread and the attacks kept increasing,” she told PTI.

What went down

The former Rajya Sabha member has said that she lost possession of the land she had bought with her own money. She also accused her husband of cheating her of crores of rupees. “He kept taking loans, mortgaging my property, which he transferred in his name. He borrowed money from locals in Churachandpur, and to recover it from him, they have seized the land through underground groups,” the six-time world champion said.

Seeks privacy

The Olympic bronze medalist has now sought privacy and added that she should be left alone to take care of her kids and aging parents, who are all dependent on her. “What is the point of my achievements? Kya fayda, I have been left broken, but I can’t even afford to grieve. Because I have four kids to take care of, parents who are dependent on me,” she added.

“I haven’t and don’t wish to take any police action, but just leave me alone, stop slandering me, Mary Kom said. On the other hand, Onler denied any involvement in any kind of wrongdoing.
