Mary Kom’s Ex-Husband Makes Fresh Allegations, Cites WhatsApp Messages; Boxer Yet to Respond
In an escalation of the ongoing dispute between Indian boxing legend Mary Kom and her former husband Karung Onkholer, also known as Onler, the latter has made fresh allegations, claiming that Kom was involved in extramarital relationships during their marriage.
The claims come as a counter to Mary Kom’s earlier accusations of financial misconduct.
Mary Kom and Onkholer separated in 2023 after nearly two decades of marriage.
Counter to Financial Allegations
Onkholer strongly denied Mary Kom’s claims that he misappropriated crores of rupees earned during her boxing career, took loans in her name, mortgaged her property, or transferred assets without her consent. He argued that his current financial situation does not support such allegations.
“She said I took ₹5 crore. Check my account,” he said, adding that he is currently living in a rented accommodation in Delhi.
Allegations of Extramarital Relationships
In response, Onkholer alleged that Mary Kom had been involved in multiple relationships over the years. He claimed that the first such incident occurred in 2013 and involved a junior boxer, which allegedly led to tensions between their families before a compromise was reached.
He further alleged that since 2017, Mary Kom was in a relationship with a person associated with the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. Onkholer claimed to possess WhatsApp messages as proof of these allegations.
“I have their WhatsApp messages as proof. I remained silent,” he was quoted as saying.
‘Do Not Blame Me Publicly,’ Says Onkholer
Onkholer stated that he has no objection to Mary Kom moving on with her life following their divorce but objected to being publicly accused without evidence.
“She wanted to live alone and have another relationship. We are divorced. I don’t mind if she wants to remarry. But don’t blame me. If there are accusations, bring proof,” he said.
He also expressed anguish over the public nature of the dispute, saying that his former wife’s stature as a global sports icon influences public perception.
“She’s a celebrity. Whatever she says, some people will believe it,” he added.
No Official Response Yet
Mary Kom has not yet responded to these latest allegations. The matter remains a public exchange of claims and counterclaims, with no judicial findings reported so far.
