There is a fierce debate going on between the supporters of Imran Khan and the supporters of Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam on social media. While Imran Khan's supporters are calling it shameful for Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz's supporters are reminding them how during his time in power, Imran Khan has also been shaking hands with non-women.
Where did your “Islami nazariya” go during this time? Find something else to hate on instead of dragging religion only when it involves a woman, while letting it slide for a man. A simple handshake bothered you so much to bring up religion, do better. pic.twitter.com/7lgpDa5psn

Maryam Nawaz is also being trolled because some time ago, when she had to appear before the investigating agency NBA in a case, she had given a very strange excuse for not joining the investigation. At that time, Maryam Nawaz had said that she did not want to join the investigation because all the people interrogating her would be non-mahram and she would be uncomfortable with that.
UAE President reached Pakistan on personal visit, this is how controversy happened
On Tuesday, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Vice President Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed arrived on a personal visit to Pakistan. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif himself and his niece Maryam Nawaz welcomed him warmly at the airport built in Rahim Yar Khan area of Pakistan. During the welcome itself, Chief Minister of Punjab Province Maryam Nawaz came forward and shook hands with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. It seems like a common thing, but when the photo of Maryam's hand on the UAE President's hand went viral on social media, it created a controversy in Pakistan.
It’s not because of the handshake. It’s because of Maryam’s statement about not going to NAB because she didn’t want to be in a room full of men. Ab sab mehram hogayey? https://t.co/2uy5Z28kQo

Maryam Nawaz's handshake with a non-mahram i.e. any other man outside the family became an issue related to Islamic laws in Pakistan. Actually, in Islam, a person with whom marriage is illegal is called Mahram. Father and brother are considered mahram. In Islam, a woman has the freedom not to veil herself in front of her mahram or husband. Apart from this, veiling is necessary in front of any other man. However, there are similar rules in Islam not only for women but also for men, but in most of the Islamic countries, due to male-dominated thinking, women are seen to be more strict.
If Maryam Nawaz is wrong then former PM Imran Khan is also wrong!
Regarding Maryam Nawaz's handshake with the UAE President, Pakistan's famous YouTuber Mansoor Ali Khan says that if Maryam has shaken hands with a non-mahram and it is being said that it is wrong, then in the same way Imran Khan has also shook hands with different countries. According to him, if he shook hands with the women representatives then he too is wrong. Mansoor Ali Khan said that if Imran Khan's children live abroad, would they not be shaking hands with any other woman there? In such a situation, there is no objection for Maryam also. However, Mansoor Ali Khan also criticized Maryam Nawaz. He said that Maryam Nawaz had also refused to join an investigation some time ago only because she had to appear before a non-mahram. At that time Maryam had tried to avoid investigation citing Shariat. In such a situation, the double face of Maryam Nawaz is also visible in this matter.
What are the reactions on social media regarding Maryam Nawaz?
Joha, a Pakistani user on social media platform X, defended the trolling of Maryam Nawaz for Islamic reasons. In the post, Zohra shared a photo of Imran Khan shaking hands with female representatives of other countries and said that where had your Islamic views gone at that time. Joha said that religion should not always come into the picture in women's matters. Joha further said that even a small handshake has been turned into a religious issue, do something good.

A supporter of Imran Khan replied to Joha on his post. Imran Khan's supporter said that this is not just about shaking hands. Rather it is that when Maryam had to appear before the investigating agency, she did not want to go for investigation in a room full of other men. Now everyone has become mahram?
Another user from Pakistan posted on X and said, 'Make yourself so high that before every destiny, God should ask the person that your pleasure has been done. Now see Maryam Nawaz's handshake. They have no respect for the nation's honor and their own respect. Another Pakistani user Altaf Chaudhary demanded the issuance of a fatwa.
Respectfully, Muftis, Scholars, and Members of the Islamic Ideology Council – Please issue a unanimously signed Fatwa to guide the nation about Maryam Nawaz’s handshake with a non-mahram man.
