Masala Khichdi Recipe

2 chopped onions

1/2 cup boiled carrots

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 tsp garam masala powder

2 spoons ghee

1 cup yellow moong dal

2 medium sized chopped potatoes

1/2 cup boiled capsicum (green chilli)

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

1 teaspoon refined oil

salt as required

Step 1

Wash lentils and rice. Soak them in water for 15 minutes. It is advisable to soak the rice for an hour, this reduces the preparation time. Take a chopping board and chop vegetables like onion, green chilli, carrot, potato, green papaya, finely chopped ginger in a pressure cooker, fry the onion in a mixture of 1 teaspoon ghee and 1 teaspoon oil.

When the onion turns light brown, add mustard seeds and green chillies. Now add red chili powder and garam masala. To make this recipe even tastier, you can add garam masala at the last stage of preparation, this makes the dish even more aromatic. After frying for a while, add rice and lentils and fry both for 2-3 minutes. Now add mixed veggies and fry

Add 2 glasses of hot water. Add potato pieces and salt. When the water starts boiling, close the lid of the cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Sprinkle ghee on top before serving. You can also make your own tadka, which will enhance the flavor and aroma of this simple recipe. Serve hot with some chilli and onion pakodas and papad.
