Massive fire breaks out in a resort in Türkiye, 66 dead
New Delhi : Sixty-six people were killed and scores injured in a fire that broke out late Monday night at a hotel at a ski resort in northwestern Turkey. Officials said that the injured have been admitted to the hospital. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the fire broke out in the restaurant of a hotel located in the Kartalkaya resort in Bolu province. Television footage of the fire showed the roof and upper floors of the hotel on fire. The cause of the fire could not be immediately known.

Local media quoted Governor Abdulaziz Aydin as saying that two people died after jumping from the building in panic. Private television reported that some people tried to come down from their rooms with the help of bedsheets. Told that 234 guests were staying in the hotel.
Effort to rescue people trapped in hotel
Necmi Kepsetutan, a ski instructor at the hotel, said he was sleeping when the fire broke out. He ran out of the building after the incident. He told the media that he helped evacuate about 20 guests from the hotel at the time of the incident. He said the hotel was filled with smoke, making it difficult for guests to find a way to escape the fire. “I haven't been able to contact some of my students. I hope they're OK,” the ski instructor said.

Kartalakaya is a popular ski resort located in the Koroglu mountain region, about 300 kilometers east of Istanbul. There are school holidays in Turkey and hotels in the area are usually full during this time. Aydin's office said 30 trucks and 28 ambulances were dispatched to the scene. As a precaution, other hotels in the resort have been evacuated.
