A large fire erupted on the third floor of a hardware store in the Chabutra Bazar area of Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday night, an official confirmed.
Following the incident, the Fire and Emergency Services Department responded swiftly. Officials reported that fire teams arrived promptly with firefighting vehicles to launch rescue operations as thick smoke spread across parts of the market.
More than eight fire tenders, including specialized units from the Indian Army, were deployed to contain the blaze, the official added.
The joint emergency teams are coordinating efforts to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring commercial properties.
Meanwhile, a large crowd of local residents gathered at the busy market as firefighting continued. Authorities stated they are closely monitoring the situation and efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing.
