While the ongoing anti-terror operation in the border district of Rajouri entered its eighth day on Saturday, police and security forces launched a massive cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the adjoining Poonch district after receiving information about the presence of suspected terrorists in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation is being conducted in the Chamrer and Machki areas of Surankote, where security agencies received specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist activity.

According to reports, security agencies swung into action immediately after receiving information about the sighting of two to three suspicious individuals in the area. Following the inputs, joint teams of the police, army, and other security forces cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation.

Additional security personnel have been deployed to make the operation more effective, while surveillance has been intensified in the surrounding areas. Security agencies remained on high alert throughout the night to ensure that the suspected terrorists did not escape.

‘Operation Sheruwali’ Continues in Rajouri

Meanwhile, security forces continued ‘Operation Sheruwali’ for the eighth consecutive day on Saturday to track down two to three Pakistani terrorists believed to be hiding in the forests of Rajouri district.

Security forces targeted suspected terrorist hideouts with heavy firepower as the ultras continued to shift positions across the difficult terrain, valleys, and gorges in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt of the Manjakote area.

Joint teams of the police and security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Surankote region of Poonch district on Friday after receiving intelligence inputs regarding suspected terrorist movement. Backed by helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs, joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces have been conducting extensive searches in the adjoining areas. The security cordon around the operation zone has also been strengthened through the deployment of additional troops, officials added.

As part of enhanced security measures, vehicle checking on roads connected to the operation area has been intensified, while additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the forests of Dorimal in the Gambhir Moghla region.

Operation Sheruwali was launched last Saturday after an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt following specific intelligence inputs.

A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the area based on information regarding the movement of suspected terrorists.

The operation led to a brief exchange of fire after contact was established with the terrorists, prompting security forces to continue extensive searches in the rugged and heavily forested terrain.
