Ingredients:
- 1 cup dried green peas (matar)
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 teaspoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons mustard oil or vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
Instructions:
- Wash the green peas and steam them in a pressure cooker.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Now, add the chopped onions and saute them so they turn translucent.
- In this add the chopped tomatoes and saute them until they are soft and mushy.
- In this mixture, add the ginge- garlic paste, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder and mix well.
- Add the green peas, salt, and 1/2 cup water.
- Reduce the heat to low and leave it for about 20-25 minutes until the peas turn tender.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and a squeeze of lemon juice, if needed.
