Mayor of Kingstown Season 5: Release date rumors, cast updates and what to expect next

The Mayor of Kingstown is perhaps the most entertaining and gripping crime series available on an American OTT platform; it presents an intense and realistic depiction of the struggles for control over an area, and of all the corruption surrounding the area, and the influence of the prison system over the townspeople in Michigan by examining the morally ambiguous lives of the McLusky family. Fans are eagerly anticipating the final (fifth) season due to the increased tension, the added scrutiny of the FBI, the explosive and long-overdue confrontations, and the continued revelation of Mike’s secrets in conjunction with the violent events from Season 4, along with Sheridan’s true-to-life depiction of everything he creates.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 5: Renewal and Status

In January 2026, Season 5 was confirmed, marking its final season.

Filming officially commenced in early March 2026 (as of March 13, 2026) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Season 4 concluded in late 2025/early 2026, and now, Season 5 will complete the series.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 5: Release Date Rumors

As of now, we don’t know when the premiere will be. The filming just started in March of 2026, which would indicate that sometime in the second half of 2026 or potentially early 2027 is the most likely timeframe based on how long post-production can take. Since prior seasons have had different lengths between seasons (e.g., Season Four was released in October 2025 but was previously confirmed for renewal sometime before that), if you’re an avid fan of the franchise, you can probably expect to hear more from Paramount+ as post-production continues. There do not appear to be any legitimate rumors regarding a release of the new series, other than the fact that several people have suggested an earlier release date (e.g., October 2023), which appears to be mixed in with either Season Four or unsubstantiated claims by some individuals.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 5: Cast Updates

The core cast is returning for the endgame:

  • Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky
  • Edie Falco as Nina Hobbs (prison warden)
  • Hugh Dillon as Ian Ferguson
  • Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky
  • Tobi Bamtefa as Bunny Washington
  • Derek Webster as Stevie
  • Laura Benanti as Cindy Stephens
  • Necar Zadegan as Evelyn Foley
  • Lennie James as Frank Moses
  • Nichole Galicia and Rebecca

New addition: David Morse joins as a series regular, playing Russell Hardy—a seasoned FBI agent arriving in Kingstown to investigate, potentially exposing Mike’s secrets amid fallout from prior events (including Tracy’s murder and vengeance against Callahan).

Other returning players may appear based on story needs.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 5: What to Expect Next

There will be 8 episodes in Season 5 (which is fewer than the last season’s 10). The storyline will have a more compressed and concluding arc than before. Picking up after Season 4 concluded with a very dark ending and the fallout of FBI scrutiny causing issues in Kingstown, we can anticipate significantly heightened levels of drama regarding Mike’s sense of morality, politics inside of prison, tension between rival gangs and families — and the overall gritty storytelling associated with Taylor Sheridan involving a great amount of crime, corruption, and violence. Since it is the series finale, they hope to have resolved most of the bigger storylines, and possibly with a theme of “rebirth” or reckoning (as hinted at by Renner).

For the latest updates from Paramount+, stay tuned for the official announcements regarding Season 5’s trailers and premiere date!
