MCD orders to Delhi schools; Identify children of illegal Bangladeshis, no birth certificate should be issued

The work of identifying illegal Bangladeshis has intensified in Delhi, which was handed over to Delhi Police by the Lieutenant Governor last week. Now the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has ordered schools to verify and identify the children of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and also ensure that no birth certificates are given to such people. This instruction was issued in an online meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary Home, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) on December 12, 2024.

Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) and Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of MCD participated in the meeting. An order said that the Education Department should take necessary action to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant children during admission in municipal schools. Further, all areas have been directed to take necessary action to remove encroachment by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and verification drives will be conducted to identify such children already studying in schools.

On this order, MCD Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) B.P. Bhardwaj has also ordered the Public Health Department to follow safety measures while registering births and issuing birth certificates, and also to ensure that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are not issued birth certificates. The action taken report will be submitted to the office of the Deputy Commissioner every Friday at 3:30 pm. A verification drive will be conducted to identify any birth certificates previously issued to such persons.

2 Bangladeshi infiltrators caught

Last week, Delhi Police launched a drive to identify over 1,000 Bangladeshis living illegally in the city, with Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Ravi Kumar Singh saying, “We have identified over 1,000 people during our drive. “Identified and caught 2 people from Kalindi Kunj and Hazrat Nizamuddin area.”
