Earlier, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi had directed the MCD Commissioner to conduct elections for the standing committee members on October 5. The Mayor wrote a letter to the MCD Commissioner. He declared the election of the Standing Committee member announced by the Commissioner as illegal. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party MLAs protested outside the Delhi Assembly.

Let us tell you that on Thursday, Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Kumar issued an order to hold standing committee member elections on September 27 at 1 pm. The Commissioner issued this instruction at night on the orders of the LG after the confrontation between the Delhi Government, the Mayor and the Raj Niwas over the elections.

BJP's intentions flawed: Kejriwal

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that there seems to be a flaw in the intentions of the BJP. Only the Mayor has the right to call the MCD meeting. LG Saheb and even the Commissioner cannot call a meeting. The Mayor can also preside over the meeting. Tomorrow these people will also get the Home Secretary to preside over the Lok Sabha. Along with this, 72 hours time has to be given while calling a meeting of the House, but they did not give it. There seems to be a flaw in their intentions. They are plotting to do something wrong.

Dictatorship will not work in Municipal Corporation: Mayor

Delhi Mayor Shaili Oberoi said that last night an order was issued by the Commissioner on the instructions of the Lieutenant Governor that 'the election of the 6th member of the Standing Committee will be held at 1 pm today'. That order is completely illegal. The DMC Act has been flouted. The Lieutenant Governor does not have any power to interfere in the House meetings. Yesterday also BJP disrupted the election process. Yesterday I was forced to adjourn the House till the 5th. If we talk about law, valid elections will be held only on October 5. As mayor, it is my responsibility to ensure that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. BJP will have to understand that this kind of dictatorship will not work in the Municipal Corporation. What is the intention of BJP that an attempt was made to conduct elections overnight?

AAP councilor will not take part in the elections

On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party will not participate in the election for the vacant post of a member of the Standing Committee. People associated with AAP present in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office told that their party councilors will not come to the House. The House meeting is being held on the instructions of the Lieutenant Governor. Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Senior Councilor Mukesh Goyal refused to preside over the meeting. For this reason the Commissioner made Additional Commissioner Jitendra Yadav the presiding officer.
