McGrath asked Australia to take strict action against Kohli

New Delhi New Delhi: Australia's legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath has urged the Pat Cummins-led side to put pressure on an emotional Virat Kohli during the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series starting in Perth from November 22. The mighty Kohli has averaged just 22.72 in his six Test matches this year, which is much lower than his average of 54.08 in Test matches in Australia. Kohli arrives on the Australia tour after scoring just 91 runs in India's unprecedented 3-0 series defeat against New Zealand at home earlier this month. With Shubman Gill ruled out of the first Test with a thumb fracture, the pressure will be high on Kohli to score big runs for India on the bouncy and fast Perth pitch.

“If they work hard on him, if he struggles with emotions, there will be a little buzz, who knows he might get up. But I think he is probably under a bit of pressure, and if he scores a bit low initially, he can really feel it. I think he is a very emotional player. When he's up, he's up, and when he's down, he struggles a little bit,” said McGrath.

He also feels that Australia will have to increase their aggression if they have to stop India from scoring a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia. “There's no doubt, especially after the 3-0 loss against New Zealand, you've got a lot of ammunition to bring yourself back. So put the pressure on them and see if they're up to it,” said McGrath, who has taken 563 Test wickets at an average of just 21.64. After the first match of the series in Perth, India and Australia will play the remaining four Test matches in Adelaide (pink-ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. This will also be the first five-match Test series between India and Australia since the 1991/92 season.
