MEA confirms death of Indian national in Kuwait airport attack, 13 others injured
India has confirmed that one Indian national was killed and 13 others were injured in the attack on Kuwait International Airport on June 3as the government intensified efforts to assist affected citizens and their families.
Speaking at a media briefing, Aseem MahajanAdditional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)said Indian authorities are working closely with Kuwaiti officials and extending all necessary assistance to those impacted by the incident. According to Mahajan, the attack resulted in the death of one Indian citizen, while 13 other Indian nationals sustained injuries. The MEA expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said arrangements were being made to support both the family of the deceased and the injured individuals.
Indian diplomatic missions in the region remain on alert and are coordinating with local authorities to ensure the welfare and safety of Indian citizens. The government has also reiterated its commitment to providing assistance to all affected nationals. The incident occurred on June 3when Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) came under attack, causing casualties and significant damage to airport infrastructure. Kuwaiti authorities reported that drones struck the passenger terminal, leading to injuries among travelers, airport workers, and civilians present at the facility.
Following the attack, airport operations were disrupted and authorities implemented emergency response measures. Kuwait’s security and civil aviation agencies launched assessments of the damage while emergency services rushed the injured to hospitals for treatment.
The Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that civilian populations and civilian infrastructure should not be targeted under any circumstances. In its statement, the MEA called on all parties involved in the regional conflict to cease attacks that endanger civilians and vital public facilities. India reiterated its long-standing position that adherence to international humanitarian principles remains essential during periods of conflict.
The Embassy of India in Kuwait has been coordinating closely with local authorities since the attack. Indian Ambassador Paramita Tripathi visited injured Indian nationals receiving treatment at hospitals and assured them of all possible support from the mission.
The embassy also confirmed that it is in contact with the family of the deceased Indian national and is working with Kuwaiti authorities regarding the repatriation of the mortal remains. Officials said assistance is being provided on a priority basis to all affected citizens. Indian authorities said the situation continues to be monitored closely amid heightened tensions in the region. The MEA stated that Indian missions and posts across West Asia remain vigilant and are proactively assisting members of the Indian community wherever required.
