MEA statement came on Bangladesh violence, said- 2900 incidents of murder, arson and land grabbing during the interim government

Delhi. Expressing concern over incidents of atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh, India has strongly condemned the killing of another person from the Hindu community, Dipu Chandra Das, and said that prompt action should be taken against the criminals involved. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in response to questions at the weekly briefing here on Friday, said that people of minority Hindu, Christian and Buddhist communities are being persecuted in Bangladesh.

He said the killing of another Hindu, Dipu Das, in Mymensingh, Bangladesh is a matter of concern and India strongly condemns it. He said that those responsible for these incidents should be brought to justice. He said that since the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, 2900 incidents of murder, arson and land grabbing have come to light. He said that these incidents cannot be ignored by calling them exaggerated stories in the media or political violence.

On the question of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Tariq Rahman’s return to Bangladesh, he said that it should be seen in the context that India is in favor of free, fair and inclusive elections there. Along with this, India wants a stable and peaceful Bangladesh and wants to strengthen relations with this neighboring country. The spokesperson said that India believes that all parties should have participation in elections.

On questions related to anti-India narratives in Bangladesh, Mr. Jaiswal said, “We have rejected the false narrative in Bangladesh. Creating such a narrative that the situation is going in some other direction is wrong and we reject it outright.” He said that the law and order and security situation in Bangladesh is the responsibility of the government there. It is noteworthy that in the last few days, two people of Hindu community have been murdered in Bangladesh. Awami League, the main political party in Bangladesh, has also been banned from contesting elections.
