Meesho received income tax notice of Rs 1500 crore, company said – not agreed
E-commerce company Meesho has received a big tax notice from the Income Tax Department. The company said on Friday (6 March 2026) that the Income Tax Department has imposed a tax demand of Rs 1,499.73 crore for the assessment year 2023-24. This also includes interest.
This order has been issued under Section 143(3) of the Income-Tax Act, 1961. Besides, demand notice under Section 156 was also issued on 5 March 2026. Meesho received this order and notice on March 6.

According to the company, the tax department has made some changes in the income reported by the company, due to which this demand has increased. Meesho says that she does not agree with this order. The company has legal and factual grounds to challenge this order. Therefore, the company is now taking necessary steps to protect its interests.
Tax demand came last year also
Meesho also told that a similar tax demand had come for the last year i.e. assessment year 2022-23. The company had given this information in its prospectus in December 2025. In that case, the Karnataka High Court had imposed an interim stay on 17 April 2025 and the matter is still going on in the court.
The company says that this new tax order and notice will not have any major adverse impact on its financial condition, business or other activities.

Company started in 2015
Meesho was started in 2015. It is an online platform that connects customers, sellers, logistics companies and content creators. The company’s main revenue comes from services it provides from sellers, such as fulfillment, advertising and analytics.
