New Delhi: Once the world caught on to New York’s lookalike competition trend, it set off a chain of reaction as many others followed along. After Anthony Po’s viral Timothee Chalamet lookalike competition, the K-pop version quickly came along. Looking for BTS’ Jungkook’s lookalike, on November 24, 2024, hundreds gathered at the Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
The winner of the competition had the chance to win a $20 cash prize, a soju bottle and the internet fame that came along with it. Fans were shocked to see that the winner of the Jungkook lookalike competition was already internet-famous.
Who won Jungkook lookalike competition?
Pictures of the top three finalists along with other participants dressed in black went viral on X (formerly Twitter). Among the top three, it was Youtuber Andrew Alexander, who was crowned the ultimate winner. While most new ARMY would not recognise Andrew, older fans recognised him as the viral boy who was ‘transformed’ into Jungkook on his sister’s YouTube account.

All about Andrew Alexander
Andrew Alexander is currently a third-year university student in California. He flew to Chicago, especially for the competition. His rise to internet fame came when four years ago, Andrews’ sister Ashley, posted a video titled ‘I turned my brother into BTS Jungkook’. While Andrew never accepted the seemingly striking similarities, this did not stop fans from drawing comparisons.

Why did netizens not agree with the winner?
Now that Andrew has won the competition, netizens have argued that he definitely does not look like a K-pop star. “Somehow he has all of his features and none of them at the same time,” wrote a netizen. With various accounts calling Andrew underserving for the title, fans who recognised him came to his defence and stated that Andrew gave ‘Jungkook vibes’. Fans claimed that while Andrew might not be a carbon copy of the singer, their mannerisms and features are quite similar.
