Selling and purchasing shares can make an individual either rich or poor, depending on multiple factors such as the condition of the market, the timing of the transactions, the choice of stocks, and the investor’s knowledge and strategy. Well, one such story is Girish Mathrubootham, who sold 2.5 million shares of the company, earning $39.6 million (Rs 336.41 crore) from this sale.

As per the firm’s SEC filings submitted on December 20, Girish Mathrubootham, the co-founder and executive chairman of Nasdaq-listed SaaS firm Freshworks, has sold nearly 2.5 million shares of the company’s Class A common stock, valued at approximately $39.6 million, as per the Bussiness report.

The sales took place over multiple transactions this week, with an average price range of $15.33 to $16.50 per share. These stock sales occur amidst notable recent developments at the Nasdaq-listed SaaS firm.

In February 2024, Freshworks’ board of directors canceled the CEO Performance Award of six million stock units granted to Mathrubootham in 2022, citing changes in performance targets due to challenging macroeconomic conditions, added the report. Later, Mathrubootham was granted a new annual long-term equity incentive award with a fair value of $19 million. During the same period, Mathrubootham sold shares worth $9.6 million.

As per the official website of Freshworks, Girish served as CEO from 2010 to 2024. Under his leadership, Freshworks expanded its operations to 13 global locations to serve over 67,000 customers worldwide. He is also a prominent venture capital investor and advisor to over 60 companies.

He began to work hard and landed his first job at HCL. Later, he became a lead engineer at Zoho, a company he dedicated 7 years to, eventually rising to the position of Vice President.

It was in 2010, that Mathrubootham left Zoho and founded his company, Freshworks. The company continued to thrive, and when it was listed on Nasdaq, 500 of its employees became instant millionaires, many of them under 30.
