Success Story: A man who has written his own fate and proved to his haters that nothing is impossible, diamond trader from Surat city Savjibhai Dholakia has always made headlines for giving expensive gifts to employees during Diwali, such as cars, flats, jewellery sets, fixed deposits, and insurance policies to more than 4,000 employees. Dholakia is all set to surprise his employees with expensive gifts this Diwali. But do you know that he was not a wealthy man and has risen from zero to the top. Savjibhai was the son of a farmer and came to Surat city with just Rs 12.50. Let’s learn about his success story.

Who is Savjibhai Dholakia?

Savjibhai was born on April 12, 1962, in a small village Dudhala village of Gujarat’s Amreli district. His father was a farmer and the family had to struggle for daily bread. Due to financial constraints young Savjibhai had to drop out of school at the age of 12. His story took a turn in 1977, when he came to Surat city with just Rs 12.50 to live with his uncle. His uncle was a diamond trader and he stated learning the nuances of the diamond trading from him.

Savjibhai Dholakia: First Salary Of Rs 180

Savjibhai started working in a diamond workshop in Surat as a polisher. People used to call him diamond polisher for many years.
At that time, he earned Rs 180 in salary. He worked as a diamond polisher for ten years.

Savjibhai Dholakia: A Risky Step To Success

While working in the diamond industry, Savjibhai realized that if he started his own diamond polishing business, he could earn more money. He borrowed money from his uncle started a diamond polishing business with his friends.
After getting success in the business, Savjibhai and his brother Himat and Tulsi started a separate company named Hari Krishna Exports in 1992. They made all efforts to make the company successful and within a year their company achieved a turnover of Rs 1 crore. By 1995, the company’s turnover had reached Rs 13 crores.

Savjibhai Dholakia: Net Worth

According to the Hurun India Rich latest List, the combined wealth of the four owners of Hari Krishna Exports is Rs 12,500 crores. The company polishes 40,000 diamonds every month and 500,000 diamonds each year.

Three Lessons from His Mother

On his trip back to his village from Surat, Savjibhai found himself being counselled by his mother, Phooliben Dholakia. She proposed the idea of venturing into business if education was no longer feasible for him. Her aspiration was to see Savjibhai flourish into a successful person in the future. Inspired by his mother’s backing, Savjibhai made up his mind to not just amass great wealth, but also become an outstanding man.

Launch of HK Jewels

By the year 2001-02, the company started polishing diamonds ranging from 0.18 to 0.98 carats, registering a turnover over Rs 100 crores. In 2002-03, the company experienced 300 percent growth.
In 2002, the company launched a new jewelry brand called – HK Jewels. In 2005, Savjibhai launched two more brands – HK Designs and KISNA Diamond Jewelry.

Notably, KISNA Diamond Jewelry is the largest domestic diamond jewelry brand in India, with more than 3,000 outlets across 29 states.

Not only that, KISNA has also won several awards.

Trading in 86 Countries Today

In 2008, Hari Krishna saw the establishment of a fresh diamond polishing unit in Surat. With booming success, the company’s revenues have soared past the Rs 10,000 crore mark. Its business footprints are spread across 86 countries worldwide, touching continents from North America, with presence in Canada and the USA, to the Middle East in the UAE, and across various European nations.

Gifting Expensive Presents to Employees During Diwali

In 1995, Savjibhai made headlines when he gifted three cars to his dedicated team. Fast forward to 2016, and his generosity became the talk of the town once again as he presented 1,260 cars, over 400 houses, and jewelry sets to his employees.
He did this all, not just out of generosity but in respect of his employees’ hard work and dedication. This heartfelt appreciation to his staff, he believes, truly propelled his company’s growth. In 2018, HK Exports gifted Mercedes cars to three employees who completed 25 years with the company. Each of these cars was worth over Rs 1 crore.

Padma Shri award

In 2022, Savjibhai received the prestigious Padma Shri Award from the President. His family members gifted him a helicopter worth Rs 50 crores.
Savjibhai has also donated that helicopter for medical and emergency services.
