If a person is determined to attain success in business, the individual will pursue and achieve it, come what may. But, if anyone has shame or hesitation doing a work which has a negative narrative in the society, he or she will never succeed.

We will discuss Richa Kar who tried her hand in the underwear business and became a successful entrepreneur.

Taking it as a passion for herself, Richa Kar built an empire of worth Rs 1300 crore in the business of innerwear segment. However, a few years later, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Retail acquired her company. It has been observed that people often hesitate to enter the innerwear business, losing the opportunity to earn significant profits. Richa saw this as an opportunity while recognising that women are reluctant to approach a shop if the salesmen are male. She viewed this challenge as a major stigma and launched an online brand called Zivame.

Richa had faced a lot of opposition from her family members and friends. She was mocked by her close relatives. But, adamant Richa was determined to establish the business and finally she did it.

Her mother too opposed her idea initially but she surrendered before her dedication and resilience. Richa’s mother was very upset at the thought of telling her friends and relatives that her daughter has started a business of innerwear. Richa had even quit her job to pursue her dream.

She took a loan from her friends and close relatives and launched the company online. Women also supported her initiative. She invested Rs 35 lakh to start the business and in 2011, she launched the lingerie business under the Zivame banner.

Initially, Richa’s business did not get good response, but over a period of time, it got the support of women. Reliance Retail acquired the brand in 2020. Today, this brand has over 5000 lingerie styles, more than 50 brands and is available in over 100 sizes. Richa’s name was listed in ‘Under 40’ in 2014 for her achievements.
