Meg Lanning created history, breaking Harmanpreet Kaur’s record and became the third player to do so in WPL.

Meg Lanning’s bat was once again seen writing history in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026). While playing for UP Warriors, Lanning not only completed 1000 runs in WPL, but also left Harmanpreet Kaur behind. With this special achievement she has become a part of a special club in WPL history.

In the Women’s Premier League 2026, UP Warriors captain Meg Lanning created history by scoring a brilliant half-century in the match played against Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday (January 14). Opening in this match played in Navi Mumbai, Lanning played a strong inning of 54 runs in 38 balls, which included 9 fours and 1 six.

During this innings, Meg Lanning became the third batsman in the world to complete 1000 runs in WPL. Before this, only Nat Sciver Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur had been able to achieve this feat. Not only this, she also broke the record of Harmanpreet Kaur in terms of scoring most runs in WPL as a captain and by doing so, Lanning has now become the second highest run scorer in WPL. Lanning has completed 1050 runs as captain in 30 matches, while Harmanpreet has scored 1016 runs in 30 matches.

Meg Lanning has previously scored 952 runs in 27 matches while playing for Delhi Capitals from 2023 to 2025. This was his third match for UP Warriors in WPL 2026, in which he took his total runs in the tournament beyond 1000.

At the same time, with this half-century, Lanning has equaled Harmanpreet Kaur in terms of scoring the most half-centuries in WPL. Both the batsmen have scored 10-10 half-centuries in 30 matches so far.

Talking about the match, batting first, UP Warriors scored 154 runs thanks to the innings of Meg Lanning (54) and Harleen Deol (47). In reply, Shefali Verma (36) and Lizelle Lee (67) made a strong partnership for Delhi Capitals, due to which the team won the match by 7 wickets.
