Mesut Ozil and Necmettin Bilal Erdogan involved in minor accident during Rohingya camp visit in Bangladesh

Former German footballer Mesut Ozil and Necmettin Bilal Erdoganthe son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoganwere involved in a minor traffic accident on Thursday evening while returning from a visit to Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

The incident occurred in Ukhiya’s Kutupalong area when an electric auto-rickshaw reportedly collided with one of the vehicles in their convoy. According to local sources, the rickshaw was severely damaged and its driver sustained injuries. The injured driver later received medical treatment at a nearby facility. Authorities have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation into the matter.

Visit to Kutupalong Rohingya Camp

Earlier in the day, Ozil and Necmettin arrived at Cox’s Bazar Airport after flying in from Dhaka by private plane. They were welcomed by district administration officials, police authorities and representatives from the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner’s office.

The delegation visited Kutupalong Refugee Campwidely known as the world’s largest Rohingya refugee settlement. The camp houses hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees who fled violence in Myanmar.

Ozil and Necmettin led a 13-member Turkish delegation that included officials from Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Turkish Embassy. The purpose of the visit was to review living conditions, healthcare facilities, educational services and ongoing humanitarian support initiatives in the camps.
