Big decision of Meta AI, if the child talks about suicide with AI, then the parents will immediately get a secret alert.
Meta AI Teen Safety: AI chatbots are increasingly becoming a part of the lives of children and teenagers. Many teenagers spend hours interacting with Meta AI, but this growing dependence has also given rise to new concerns about mental health and online safety. Now, in view of these dangers, social media company Meta is bringing a new safety feature which can make the safety of children stronger than before. Let us tell you that in recent times, many tech companies were under criticism for the answers given by AI chatbots to the youth suffering from mental stress and depression. It is believed that due to this increasing pressure, Meta has taken this big step.
How will the new Meta AI Safety Feature work?
In the information, Meta has said that if a teenager talks about suicide or self-harm on Meta AI chatbot, then the system will recognize such signals. However, the final decision will not be taken by AI alone. Each conversation flagged by AI will first be manually reviewed by Meta’s expert team. After investigation, only if the need is felt, a secret alert will be sent to the child’s parents.
Regarding this, the company has said in its blog post that ‘We understand how disturbing such alerts can be for parents. That’s why we are taking full precautions. Even if the teenager’s intentions are not completely clear in any conversation, an alert will be sent to the parents keeping security in mind.
The feature will be available first in these countries
For now, it is being told that Meta will launch this feature in America, Britain, Canada and Australia in the initial phase. This feature will only be available to families who are using Instagram’s Parental Supervision tools. Along with this, the company says that it plans to roll out this feature worldwide by the end of the year. In such a situation, Indian users are also expected to get this facility by the end of this year. Whereas Meta will be the first AI chatbot platform to do so, which will directly inform parents when signs related to suicide are detected.
Many security features are already present
As everyone knows that Meta has already provided many digital safety tools to parents. If a teenager continuously searches for suicide or self-harm related content on Instagram, parents get a notification. Additionally, they can also see what topics their child has talked to Meta AI about in the past week, although they are not allowed to read the entire chat.

Information can also be sent to emergency services
Along with this, Meta is also working on another important security feature. If AI feels that a user may harm himself immediately, the company can also inform the relevant emergency services. This security system, already implemented on Facebook and Instagram, is now being extended to Meta AI chatbot as well. Regarding this, digital security experts believe that in the era of increasing use of AI, such steps can prove important to protect the online safety and mental health of children.
