Meta Glasses Rival Coming? Apple Plans To Create Smart Glasses With Project ‘Atlas’

Apple launched its first Augmented Reality headset, the Vision Pro last year which got mixed reviews from several techies and Apple fans. However, Apple is reportedly now planning to rival Meta while creating smart glasses under an internal initiative code-named Atlas. As per a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this secret project is planning to assess existing smart glasses products and analyse what may help Apple’s future Smart Glasses category to be a success.

The study began last week and is getting feedback from Apple employees regarding the several smart glasses in the market. The report quoted anonymous sources who are aware of the matter suggesting that Apple may make more focus groups soon. The project is led by the Product Systems Quality team, a division of Apple’s hardware engineering, are reaching out to selected employees to under what product would resonate the most with the consumers.

This is an Apple strategy to make secret focus groups first within the employees to understand the market of a new product and the preferences of customers without making the plans public. The ongoing research into smart glasses suggests that Apple is progressing with its vision of developing its own version, report suggested.

Challenges Apple May Face In Creating Smart Glasses

This Apple foray into the Smart Glasses segment may rival the Meta’s existing Ray-Ban smart glasses. However, it must be noted that the process is still in the early phase and the final product may take years to actually release in the market. On the other hand, Meta has already tapped the formula with a simpler model of smart glasses at just $299 which lets users record video, answer calls, and even use an AI assistant.

However, it won’t be a simple way for Apple to create a new segment of smart glasses as Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which launched at $3,499 has been criticized for being too bulky and costly. Some latest reports suggest that the tech giant might be working to bring a lighter and cheaper Augmented Reality headset, but again, it is still in theories and reports!

It must be noted that the competition and hurdles for Apple will be tough as there are already several other players in the market who are using real-world visuals to integrate with digital elements like games and messages.
