Mexican navy plane crashes, five killed

Galveston (Texas), December 23: A Mexican Navy plane crashed in Galveston, Texas on Monday. Many people died in the accident. Relief and rescue operations are underway. Reports vary on the number of dead. According to the US Coast Guard, at least five people have been confirmed dead in this accident. Other reports suggest six people were killed, including the pilots, a doctor and a patient. According to The New York Times and Houston Chronicle reports, the plane was carrying eight people, including four Mexican Navy officers and four civilians. The plane was carrying a one-year-old child who was seriously burnt in the fire. It is reported that at least two people were rescued and taken to local medical centers during the relief and rescue operations. Among them is a 27 year old woman. Dense fog was cited as the cause of the crash. Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullan said the plane crashed west of the Galveston Causeway at 3:17 p.m. Six people could be evacuated by 5 pm. “At the time of the accident, the aircraft was on a medical aid mission in coordination with the Michau and Maui Foundation,” Mexico’s Navy Secretariat told XPost. Michou and Maui Foundation help children seriously burned in fire in Mexico.” According to reports, officials from the Galveston Police Department, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, US Coast Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the accident.
