Mexico Crash: Small plane crashes in Mexico, at least 6 people killed

Mexico City, December 16. A small plane crashed in the city of San Mateo Atenco in the central state of Mexico. According to the local administration, at least six people died in this accident. State civil protection coordinator Adrian Hernandez Romero said a total of 10 people were on board, including the pilot and co-pilot. He said that the dead have not been identified yet.

Hernandez said it was a private jet, registered with eight passengers and two crew members. However, only seven bodies were recovered several hours after the accident. According to preliminary information, the plane tried to land in a football field, but collided with the metal roof of a nearby commercial building. After the collision there was a massive fire. The accident is being investigated.

The state Civil Protection Agency said through social media that relief and rescue teams are working on the spot and people have been appealed to stay away from the area, Xinhua news agency reported. The accident occurred on Monday in an industrial area, about 5.7 kilometers from Toluca International Airport. This airport is a major aviation hub in the Toluca Valley.

Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport said in a statement that the accident occurred at 12:31 pm local time. San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muniz Nera visited the scene and again appealed to people not to go there. He said that the plane belonged to Jet Pro company and there was no report of anyone being injured on the ground.
