MG Majestor Flagship SUV Enters Production
MG Motor has officially begun manufacturing the Majestor, its new flagship SUV, as it prepares for an impending market launch. Bookings for the new full-size, body-on-frame SUV are already open for a token amount of Rs 41,000. Positioned as a direct replacement for the Gloster, the Majestor will target buyers looking for a large, feature-heavy diesel 4×4, aiming directly at the Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian.
Based on the global Maxus D90 platform but updated for the Indian market, the Majestor will be sold strictly as a diesel offering with no petrol option available. Power comes from a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 212bhp and 478.5Nm of torque. The engine is mated exclusively to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Buyers will have the option to choose between a two-wheel drive setup and a more capable four-wheel drive system that includes triple differential locking for serious off-road use.
The SUV is substantial in size, measuring 5,046mm in length, 2,016mm in width, and 1,876mm in height, with a long 2,950mm wheelbase. It claims a ground clearance of 219mm and a water-wading capacity of 810mm.

For buyers actually taking this SUV off the tarmac, the approach angle sits at a respectable 27.6 degrees, while the departure angle is 23.5 degrees, allowing it to clear steep inclines without scraping the bumpers.
Inside, MG is offering both six-seat and seven-seat configurations, with the six-seater featuring captain seats in the middle row. Even with all three rows up, the SUV offers 343 litres of boot space, which expands to a massive 1,350 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.

MG is leaning heavily into technology and cabin features to differentiate the Majestor from its rivals. The dashboard is dominated by a dual 12.3-inch screen setup handling the instrument cluster and infotainment duties. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, a powered tailgate with gesture control, and over 75 connected car features through the i-Smart system.
Safety is also a major focus. The Majestor is built on a high-tensile ladder-frame chassis and will come equipped with Level 2 ADAS as standard. The suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. Standard safety hardware also includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, and a 360-degree camera.
MG will offer the SUV in two broad trims, Sharp and Savvy. The Sharp trim will be available with the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options, while the top-spec Savvy trim will offer the choice between the six-seat and seven-seat layouts along with the 4×4 drivetrain. Buyers will have four exterior colour choices: Pearl White, Concrete Grey, Metal Black, and Metal Ash.

Pricing and exact variant details will be the crucial factors in how the Majestor is received when officially launched. Industry estimates suggest an aggressive starting price of around Rs 39.50 lakh, stretching up to Rs 43.25 lakh for the top-spec 4×4 Savvy variant.
The Majestor will need this aggressive pricing to pull buyers away from the segment benchmark. The Toyota Fortuner currently averages roughly 2,500 to 3,000 units in monthly sales and recently crossed a massive 3 lakh unit cumulative sales milestone in India, proving its unshakeable grip on this category.
With production now underway, the first batch of vehicles is expected to be prioritised for early customers in major cities when deliveries begin. For buyers who want heavy duty ladder-frame construction but expect modern digital features and driver aids, the Majestor is shaping up to be a serious contender in the premium SUV segment.
