MG Motor India is set to launch the Majestor SUV in India today. This SUV will compete primarily with the Toyota Fortuner, which holds the crown in the segment. The launch is set to happen in Haryana, and MG flew us there last night. We are about to start our (busy) day and this thread will be updated with the latest developments real-time.
We expect the carmaker to reveal the ex-showroom prices and variant details today. MG has also promised us a guided product experience tour post-launch. We will get to drive the Majestor on some specially curated off-road course.
The carmaker is betting big on this SUV’s off-roading abilities. Built on a rugged ladder-frame chassis and with a proven 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine, it is claimed to excel on terrains. In fact, it even conquered Mount Japfu, Nagaland’s second-highest peak recently. Taking SUVs to mountain peaks and flexing their off-road abilities to lure buyers is a strategy we have seen manufacturers like Land Rover perfect over the years.
MG playing this game leaves a clear message: The Majestor isn’t one of those ‘soft-roader’ SUVs with a strict road bias and a high price tag. It is here to scale terrains and possibly conquer more peaks. Talking of the segment, this is the Fortuner’s ballgame. February 12, 9:55 AM: We are just about to check out from Hyatt Regency, Gurugram. We had a pleasant stay here. The event is set to commence at a venue in Mangar Bani, a village that’s at a distance of roughly 33km from the hotel.
MG shared two videos on their Instagram handle yesterday, showing the venue being made and readied for the grand event. The carmaker seems to be quite serious about highlighting the off-road abilities of the vehicle. These clips show the off-road track being made. From what we see in these clips, this track will likely be quite challenging. It will likely include various surfaces and simulate different traction conditions, and will also put the vehicle’s articulation to test. Mud, slush, sand, gravel, rocks- everything is to be expected.
The latest clip gives us an aerial view of the venue. The official unveil will likely happen inside the main tent. Journalists and influencers will witness the ‘rise of the Majestor’ from here. We’ll be reporting live from here, once we reach.
10:00 AM: We are on our way to the venue. There is moderate traffic around. A quick stroll through Google Maps reveals that congestion (mostly Red and Yellow in some places) awaits us at certain points. We hope our driver takes the longer, less congested alternative route. Gurugram and its traffic can be frustrating at times. The event is expected to start at around 11:30.
10:15 AM: MG has asked us to drive the Majestor, experience it and then keep quiet about it! Yes, we are talking about the embargo. Reviews, opinions, thoughts, or views are embargoed till 10:00 AM on February 16, 2026.
