MG’s super electric SUV creates a stir, 555km unlimited range, 728 hp, gives direct challenge to Tesla and BYD!

MG Motor India is preparing to make a splash in the premium electric segment. The company is going to launch its new electric SUV IM6 in the Indian market around October this year. It will be a fully imported (full CBU) model and will be sold through select MG outlets. The estimated ex-showroom price could be around Rs 60 lakh, which will bring it into direct competition with leading electric SUVs like Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

This premium electric crossover has already been showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo and now preparations for the launch have intensified. MG IM6 will not only deliver great performance and long range, but its coupe-style design and advanced technology will differentiate it in the segment.

Great range up to 555 km and fast charging

The top variant of IM6 has an advanced electrical architecture of 800V, which supports DC fast charging up to 396kW. The company claims that the 100kWh battery gets charged from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Among the powertrain options, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version comes with 408hp power and 500Nm torque, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) gets 778hp power and 802Nm torque. The speed of 0-100 km/h is achieved in 5.4 seconds in RWD and just 3.4 seconds in AWD. According to WLTP rating, the range of RWD is 555 km and AWD is 505 km. It is not clear yet which configuration will come to India.

Attractive design of coupe crossover style

The IM6 doesn’t look like a normal SUV at all, rather it looks like a stylish coupe crossover. Its key highlights are the aerodynamic body, curved glossy panels, large L-shaped LED headlights and full-width light bar at the rear. The interior has a 26.3-inch panoramic screen setup and an additional 10.5-inch vertical screen. The global version comes standard with ultra-long-range LiDAR, NVIDIA Orin X and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, which strengthens ADAS and intelligent features.

Entry of Starlight 560 SUV is also coming.

MG is going to launch another exciting model Starlight 560 SUV in 2026. It will come in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric versions. With 5-seater and 7-seater options, it will compete with vehicles like Mahindra XUV7XO, XEV 9S, Tata Harrier and Harrier EV. Its testing has started in India and it can prove to be a new powerhouse in the mid-size SUV segment.
