MHADA Lottery Delayed : MHADA Lottery Delayed; Millions of rupees of applicants are stuck, when is the new date?
MHADA Lottery Delayed : Mumbaikars’ dream of owning a rightful house has been put on hold once again, the much awaited allotment of 2640 houses in MHADA has been delayed. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has postponed the process citing legislative code of conduct and administrative delays. Due to the cancellation of this draw which was to be held in the month of May as per the original plan, more than 75 thousand middle class and general applicants’ deposits amounting to crores of rupees have been stuck with MHADA. As the new date of draw has not been decided yet, there is an atmosphere of anxiety and intense anger among the citizens who have taken out the loan and paid the money in the hope of a house. Reason for delay in draw
The MHADA draw was initially extended twice due to poor response from applicants. Subsequently, the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Legislative Council Elections led to difficulties in obtaining legal and administrative approval. As a result, the computerized draw on the originally scheduled date has been postponed indefinitely.
75000 applicants’ deposits worth crores were stuck
As many as 75366 candidates have completed the application process by paying the required deposit amount to get the right house in Mumbai. A total of Rs 375 crores is deposited in the MHADA account of all these applicants. Common citizens have to wait for a long time to get their rightful money back (Refund) or to get possession of the house due to not getting the lottery in time. MHADA Lottery Delayed
Financial dilemma and discontent of common people
Most of the people applying for MHADA housing are middle class and employed. Many had secured deposits by taking personal loans from banks, breaking strategic fixed deposits (FDs) or pledging gold jewellery. Due to the delay in the draw, the applicants have to pay exorbitant interest on this money, so there is a lot of anger among the applicants against the administration.
More than half of the houses are still incomplete
About 66% (more than half) of the 2640 houses in this lot are still not completed, they are under-construction. Winners may have to wait months or even years after the withdrawal to get physical possession of the house. MHADA Lottery Delayed

MHADA has announced the final merit list of candidates on June 16. The code of conduct for the Vidhan Parishad elections has ended on June 25, and now it is very likely that the final date of the draw will be announced by MHADA at any point in July.
